Coach’s Note

Quick Look Ahead to December…

  1. Hope all had a great extended weekend. We had some great practices over the last few days, and already back at it with a full schedule ahead of us.
  2. Looking ahead, we have a Nitro at the Races meet coming up on Saturday, Dec 10th. This meet will be at our Bee Cave facility, and is specifically designed for our Intro to Nitro swimmers as well as our less meet experienced Bronze and Technique & Fitness (TF) swimmers. Meet entries are due by Wed night, Dec 7th, before 11:59PM CST. You enter online through our website. We suggest entering all 4 events, one of each stroke. If pretty new to the swim meet experience, OK to enter 25 yard events. If a little more meet experience under the belt, then OK to enter the 50 yard events.
  3. There is also a meet on Sunday, December 18th at Southwestern University in Georgetown. This is a great meet for our more experienced Bronze and TF swimmers, and our Silver swimmers. Meet entries are due online by this Thursday night, Dec 1st, 11:59PM CST.
  4. Our Advanced Silvers, Gold, HS, and Senior Group athletes who are not attending this weekend’s COR meet up in Dallas are certainly welcomed to enter the SASA meet in San Antonio weekend of Dec 16-18th. This will be a prelim/finals meet on the Sat and Sun sessions. Meet entries due online by 11:59PM CST this Thursday night, Dec 1st.
  5. Sneak Peek ahead to Christmas/New Year’s practices at Cedar Park: We’re planning on having all practices as usual EXCEPT Dec 24th, Christmas Eve. However, anyone who participates in a Saturday group at Cedar Park is welcomed to come on over to our Bee Cave location, where we will be conducting our Saturday AM practices over there on that day. Be sure to go online and see the practice times/groups as the Bee Cave times are a bit different than the Cedar Park Saturday schedule. We will have a Practice Challenge this year allowing the kiddos to qualify for a specially designed long sleeve t-shirt based on completion of the requirements set up by the coaches during the Dec 19th-31st time frame. The coaches will be communicating the requirements for each of the groups in the next week or so. Exciting times ahead, and each season a handful of athletes get shot out of the cannon as a result of how they approach their December practices. Who will it be this year?

Thanks for being a part of Nitro, and we’ll see you at the pool! Coach Mike

Thanksgiving and upcoming meets

Since Thanksgiving is just around the corner, I wanted to remind everyone that we will be closed next Thursday, November 24. The rest of the week will be normally scheduled practices as well as dryland.

We are in the process of adding another meet for those swimmers who were not able to attend or qualify for COR. The meet will be in San Antonio the weekend of December 16-18. It will be a prelim/final meet during the Saturday and Sunday sessions. If you are interested, please keep an eye on the website for meet information and a sign up deadline.

So far I’ve been very pleased with the way the season is progressing. We’re sending 9 Advanced Silver swimmers to COR, which is the largest number ever from this group. The effort and intensity has certainly picked up in practice and I am looking forward to the next few meets.

Please feel free to email me with any questions!

Thanks for being a part of Nitro!

Note to Advanced Silver Group

Once again, November has caught me by surprise. I wanted to give everyone an update as to where we are and where we are headed as a group.

Our first UT meet was very successful and I’ve been incredibly pleased by the number of swimmers who are trying new events. We’ve had swimmers in everything from the 200 IM, 200 breastroke, 200 backstroke and even the 400 IM and the 500 freestyle. It’s been great to watch each one of them stretch and grow-and even enjoy these events a little bit! Keep in mind that the events your swimmer should focus on is directly related to the age group that they swim in (or will be in around championship time).

Next up on the horizon is the UT meet in November, and then the COR (City of Richardson) meet in December. COR does require ‘A’ time standards in order to attend, so please consult the National Age Group Motivational Time Standards to see if your swimmer qualifies. If not, there will be another meet in Georgetown December 18ththat I would recommend.

Looking a little farther down the road, the dates for the championship meets are as follows:

B Championships-January 14-15

BB Championships-January 27-29

A Championships-February 17-19

TAGS-March 8-11

For Thanksgiving, our scheduled practices will remain the same with the exception of Thanksgiving Day. Nitro will be closed that day for all groups and all practices.

Lastly, I wanted to share something that I have just discovered that I think all of the swimmers will enjoy. USA Swimming has started a new program call Deck Pass-and yes, there is an app for that! If you go to www.usaswimming.org, the first screen you should see is about Deck Pass. I recommend checking it out!

Thanks for being a part of Nitro!
